大島托 × ケロッピー前田「縄文族 JOMON TRIBE」[ 9/16 (fri) – 9/27 (tue) ]
タトゥーアーティストの大島托とフォトグラファーのケロッピー前田によるアートプロジェクト”縄文族”による展覧会「縄文族 JOMON TRIBE」を、9月16日（金）から9月27日（火）まで開催します。
大島托は、黒一色の文様を刻むトライバル・タトゥーおよびブラックワークを専門するアーティストとして、世界各地に残る民族タトゥーを現地に赴いてリサーチ、現代的なタトゥーデザインに取り入れて高く評価されています。一方、ケロッピー前田は、90年代半ばから伝説の雑誌『BURST』などで世界のアンダーグラウンド・カルチャーをレポート、現在もそのドキュメントを続けているフォト・ジャーナリストであり、近年はアーティスト＆キュレーターとして国内外での作品展示を行ってきました。この2人が日本という地において、新たなるタトゥームーブメントとして始動したのが“縄文族”です。
縄文時代にタトゥーはあったのだろうか？
いまだに答えの出ない太古の謎に実践的に彼らは取り組み、21世紀の日本における身体、太古の文様に秘められた未来のヴィジョン、縄文時代から受け継がれた生命エネルギーといったものをギャラリー空間を使って表現しようと挑んでいます。
縄文時代にタトゥーが存在していたかについては、ケロッピー前田の著書『クレイジートリップ』（三才ブックス）によれば、「1969年に考古学者の高山純が『縄文人の入墨』（講談社）を著し、縄文時代の土偶にみられる文様はタトゥーではないかと指摘。また『魏志倭人伝』に、日本人が文身を（タトゥー）をしていた記述があることは海外のタトゥー研究家たちにも広く知られている。」とあります。
縄文タトゥー復興プロジェクトは、素晴らしい伝統刺青を残す日本において、まさに世界から望まれていたものといわれています。日本発信のアートプロジェクト”縄文族”の展示に大いにご期待ください。

ステートメント
『縄文族』とは、タトゥーアーティストの大島托とフォトグラファーのケロッピー前田によるアートプロジェクトである。このプロジェクトは縄文の文様を抽出し現代的なタトゥーデザインとして身体に刻むことで、人類の原始的な精神が21世紀を生き抜くためのアイデンティティとなり得ることを示している。これは日本における「モダン・プリミティブズ（現代の原始人）」の実践である。

With the dream of traveling around the world, in 1993 Taku Oshima first set out to visit India, where he became interested in tattooing and later went on to become a professional tattoo artist. Now, he specializes in blackwork and tribal patterns, and has been traveling across the globe to research the remnants of tribal tattoo practices and then apply the findings of his research to modern tattoo designs.

Ryoichi “Keroppy” Maeda is a photographer and journalist who has been reporting the cutting edge of underground culture worldwide since the mid-90s. He is well known for his remarkable works in the legendary magazine “Burst” and other publications. From 2005, he began holding exhibitions as an artist and curator. He has been organizing a one-day art school event called “Occupy School” since 2014, and serves as chairperson of the NPO Human Being Club.

STATEMENT
“JOMON TRIBE” is a collaborative art project between tattoo artist Taku Oshima and photographer Ryoichi Keroppy Maeda, in which the patterns of Japan’s Jomon period (14,000 – 300 BCE) are inscribed upon real human bodies as modern tattoo designs to show how the primitive spirit of humankind will become a new identity to survive the postmodern life of the 21st century. This project is the practice of “modern primitives” in Japan today.
